Boating facility introduced in Nidige Tank

Water body leased out to an association for 30 years

With the boating facility having been introduced at Nidige tank, located adjacent to the National Highway 206 on the outskirts of the city, one more picnic spot has been added to the tourist map of Shivamogga district.

The boating facility has been created by Chunchadri Fisheries Development and Water Sports Association. The Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Ltd., has leased out the tank to the association for a period of 30 years.

The visitors could enjoy boating, kayaking, water scooter, zorbing ball, and banana ride facilities here. Trained personnel would guide the tourists on how to enjoy water sports. It has been made mandatory to venture into the water after wearing safety jackets. The stretcher and first aid kits would also be made available,

At present, toilets and change rooms were being provided there. In the next phase, it has been planned to open a hotel for visitors.

The Nidige tank spreads across 40 acres of land. The water is fed into the tank from Bhadra canal. The work of removing silt from the tank and creating infrastructure for boating commenced one year ago.

The boating facility was inaugurated by Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa on Sunday. Shivamogga MLA K.B. Prasanna Kumar was present.
